Barbara DeVries, 73, of Ackley, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Grand JiVante in Ackley, under the care of St. Croix Hospice. A public visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Ackley United Methodist Church. A private family service will be on Tuesday, May 3 at the Ackley United Methodist Church. She will be laid to rest at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, north of Ackley. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for Barb and her family. Barbara Lea DeVries was born February 26, 1949 in Clinton, Iowa to Christian and Zola (Webb) Steen. She attended the Elvira School and graduated from Elvira High School in 1968. During her working years, Barbara worked at various places. She worked at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Riverside Book & Bible in Iowa Falls, Tom Co Ind, Ackley Heritage Center Soda Fountain. She served on the Ackley Volunteer Ambulance Service and taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley. On June 15, 1991, she was united in marriage to Keith Raymond DeVries at East Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and flowers. She also enjoyed collecting stuffed teddy bears, Willow Tree figures and gnomes. She was a member of the Ackley United Methodist Church, Ackley Geneva Lions Club and the Birthday Card Club. Barb is survived by her husband, Keith DeVries; daughter, Alissa George (Chad Martin), son, Brent George, stepdaughters, Christil (Terry) Schwebke and Emberly DeVries; grandchildren: Haley (Effren Paz) Gunner, Breanna (Jordan Kellison) Franklin, Sarah, Jacob, Dakota and Karleyanna; great grandchildren: Nevaeh, Brennen, Maximino, Caden, Gannon and Genevieve; sisters-in-law, Janet Steen and Helen Steen of Clinton, Iowa along with many nieces and nephews and her best fur buddy, Gretchen. She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and K. Muriel DeVries, brothers, Delbert, Fredrick and David Steen and sister and brother-in-law, Joyce (Ralph) Osterander.
