Eleanor W. Bruns

Eleanor W. Bruns, 92, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away September 24, 2012, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont. She was born on February 10, 1920, in Breckenridge, Minnesota, to Pete and Sophie (Cassman) Smoot. Eleanor attended country schools. She was united in marriage to Johnnie Bruns on February 10, 1940, at her parents' home in Allison. Eleanor was a waitress and a homemaker. She was a member of the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont. Eleanor enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, cooking for family and friends and dancing. She loved to knit, do embroidery and cross stich. Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter-in-law JoAnn Bruns of Dumont, sister-in-law Margaret Smoot of Allison, sister-in-law Rena Smoot of Clarksville, grandchildren Sherry (Lowell) Miller of Dumont, Brian (Colette) Bruns of Dumont, Rhonda (Justin) Schmidt of Dumont and Terry Bruns of Ackley, great-grandchildren Katie (Lyle) Hanna of Dumont, Beth Miller of Wellsburg and fiancé Karl Eilderts, Pascale Bruns of Waverly, Kollin Bruns of Dumont, Nic Brown of Dumont, Sarah (Justin) Behn of Hampton, Joe Brown of Dumont, Sam Brown of Dumont, Jon Schmidt of Dumont, Jeff Bruns of Hampton, Mason Bruns of Ackley and Madisyn Bruns of Ackley, great great-granddaughter Haylee Hanna of Dumont, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Bruns, infant son John, son Donavon, brothers Linus, Herbert and George and sister Viola Clark. Burial will take place in the Washington Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Ackley, Iowa.
