Fred Johnson

January 30, 1923 - January 29, 2017

Fred Johnson, 93, of Allison, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Elm Springs Independent & Assisted Living in Allison. He was born on January 30, 1923, to George August and Flossie (Berends) Johnson, in Butler Center, Iowa. Fred was baptized on November 1, 1925, and was confirmed on April 10, 1938, at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Butler Center. He attended Jefferson No. 1 Country School. Fred served his country in the United States Navy from March 1944 to May 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre for two years and two months. Fred was united in marriage to Christina Kampman on October 22, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He farmed all of his life in the Butler County area. Fred was a member of the New Life Lutheran Church in Allison. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and camping with his grandchildren. Fred is survived by his wife of seventy years, Christina Johnson of Allison, daughter Esther Christine Van Hauen of Allison, daughter Barbara Sue (Steven) Meyer of Clarksville, grandchildren Cyndi (Rick) Henninger of Allison, Gregory Van Hauen of Eagle Lake, Minnesota, Lory (Brian) Christoffersen of Cedar Rapids, Craig (Kristine) Meyer of Nashua, Stephanie (Jason) Klingenborg of Bristow, Ryan (Katie) Meyer of Bettendorf, fourteen great-grandchildren, siblings Stauffer Johnson, Frances Johnson, and Vern (Mary) Johnson, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Flossie, sisters Katie and Mildred and brothers Everett, John, Harry, George, Herbert, Lawrence and Alfred.
