    Galen Glen Gallmeyer

    November 11, 1948 - April 2, 2017

Galen Glen Gallmeyer, a lifelong resident of Clarksville, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 68. Galen was the son of Carl and Helen (Ressler) Gallmeyer, born on November 11, 1948. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1966 and was drafted into the United States Army in February 1969, serving until October 1970. Galen married Kathy (Kromminga) on August 25, 1969 and they are the parents of Curt (wife Leanne, children Ethan and Emma) and Jennifer (husband Butch Gruelke, children Briggs, Nichole and her husband Jess and Callie). Galen is survived by his wife, his 2 children and their families, 4 siblings (sister Phyllis Steiber, brother Lee and his wife Nedra, sister Barb Hilton and sister Marlene and her husband Ted Stirling), and many other extended family members and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings (sisters Helen, Ruth and Doris and brothers Claire and Kenny). Galen worked many jobs throughout his life (he took pride in and enjoyed pointing out the bridges he helped build) before eventually spending 18 years at Unverferth Manufacturing, retiring in 2008. Galen enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing and canoeing, playing cards ("Smoke the queen, smoke the queen!!"), time with family, Iowa Hawkeye sports ("How 'bout those Choke-eyes?!"), a good home-cooked meal, and talking (and maybe even arguing) about political issues. A private family service will be held on Friday, April 7.
