James Edward Brown Sr.

April 28, 1959 - January 29, 2022

James Edward Brown Sr., 62, of Dumont, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A public visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Counsell Woodley Funeral Home in Dumont. Private family services will be held. He was born April 28, 1959, to Melvin Lester Brown Sr. and Patricia Ann Hopes in Hampton, Iowa. James graduated from Dumont High School in 1977. After graduation he joined the family business Brown & Sons Independent Milk Haulers. Later he also took the position of manager for the Kesley Coop Creamery in Kesley, Iowa. James was previously married to Sally Ann Lewis and to this union, two children were born: James Brown Jr. and Autumn Brown. James attended North Iowa Area Community College for Business and graduated with honors in 1999. He continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and a Social Science major, graduating magna cum laude. James is survived by his two children James Brown Jr. of Dumont and Autumn Brown (Ryan Winchester) of Thornton; grandson Kadeyn of Thornton; brothers Melvin Jr. (Zoe) Brown, Francis (Shelly) Brown, Christopher (Christie) Brown and sister Faye (Larry) Arenholz; his eleven nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin Lester Brown Sr. and Patricia Ann Hopes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to James' family and mailed to 133 Linde Ave, Dumont, Iowa 50625.
