Lester E. Schrage

June 22, 1927 - July 13, 2013

Lester E. Schrage, 86, of Allison, Iowa, passed away July 13, 2013, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, Iowa. He was born June 22, 1927, the son of Ernest W. and Hermine "Minnie" (DeBower) Schrage. Lester graduated from Allison High School. He was united in marriage on February 19, 1950, to Ann McWhirter in Allison, Iowa, and to this union four sons where born Jay, Tim, Scott and John. Lester was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Lester and Ann were engaged in farming on the home farm for 45 years until 1995, when they moved to a new home in Allison. He served on many local and regional boards and committees including, Butler County Farm Bureau, Butler Grundy F.S., Interstate Producers Livestock Associations, Experimental Airplane Association, Allison Improvement Association, Allison-Bristow School Board, Allison Lions Club, Lincoln Savings Bank, Trees Forever, St. James Lutheran Church and the Allison Library building committee, Butler Bremer Hospice Volunteer, Relay For Life Volunteer and ALC Conference Delegate. Lester enjoyed snow skiing, fishing, camping, canoeing, planting trees at Wilder Park, riding motorcycles, square dancing, writing his auto biography, helping on the farm, flying his plane, and helping to build an airplane for the mission field in 1997. He is survived by his wife Ann of Allison, four sons, Jay (Sue) Schrage of Allison, granddaughter Andrea, Tim (Felicia) Schrage of Allison, grandson Travis (Ashley) Schrage, great grandson Lincoln, granddaughter Callie (Jason) Pedersen, great grandchildren Alexis and Aubrey, grandson Chase (Tricia) Schrage, great grandson Trey, Scott (Kim) Schrage of Allison, granddaughter Erica (Kurt) Wessels, great grandchildren Eva, Liam, Elana and Emilia, grandson Jared Schrage, John (Jodi) Schrage of Urbandale, grandson Cole, brother Robert (Erma) Schrage of Nevada. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, brother Eugene, sister Viola Mosher and sister Edith Ann Shirer. Burial will take place at the Allison Cemetery in Allison, Iowa.
