Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., December 30, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Greene with Pastor Joan Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the United Methodist Church. Retz Funeral Home, Greene is serving the family. Margaret was born July 1, 1932 the daughter of Mema and Blanche (Hovenga) Mehmen and passed away on December 24, 2021, at the Valley View Care Center in Greene. Margaret grew up on a farm in the Packard Area. She attended country school and graduated from Greene High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Jack Shultz on June 2, 1951 in the Greene United Methodist Church. They were blessed with four children. Margaret worked out of her home wallpapering, painting, etc. Then she became a cook at the Greene Elementary School and moved up to the High School where she became Food Service Supervisor for Greene High School for over 30 years until her retirement. She loved her job and all the kids. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Greene. Margaret taught Sunday school, she was a member of the choir, belonged to the women’s circle and made her talents available in any area needing her service. She was active in the Legion Auxiliary, Girl Scout leader and did a lot of community volunteering. She made everyone feel welcome and loved. You never went away unloved or hungry and always had a big hug. Margaret was a care giver for her husband Jack for many years after his strokes until he entered the care center. She went to the care center every day and shared treats with the other residents until his death. She was a devoted wife of 58 years and mother and grandmother. She was devoted to her family, she always had cookies made for her grandchildren and attended her kids and grandkids events. She provided many big Sunday Dinners, a tradition that was very important to her. She loved playing board games on Sundays with her family. She was a participant in the exercise class and the “coffee with the Ladies” group in later years. She was known as Grandma Margaret to all the neighbors. Margaret also enjoyed golfing with her husband. Margaret enjoyed life to the fullest and loved her Lord with unending faith and love. She never missed a Sunday of church until her health took over. She passed on Christmas Eve and how very fitting, as this was her all-time Favorite Day. Her ENTIRE family gathered on Christmas Eve and attended the Candlelight Church service with her at church. This filled her heart with unending joy! Living family members include her four children: Jim Shultz of Baton Rouge, LA, Jerry (Becky) Shultz of Estherville, Joe (Robin) Shultz of Dubuque, Judy (Calvin) Steere of Greene; 17 grandchildren: Jeffrey Shultz, Jessica Chapman, Jackie McRoberts, Geoffrey Shultz, Lauren Reinegal, Lindley Foster, Miles Shultz, Hallie Stewert, Heidi Jensen, Hope Meyer, Hilary Bakker, Josh Thomas, Jill Herrig, Tyler Shultz, Jolyn Thomas, Jenna Veach and Calley Steere; many many great grandchildren; one sister: Catherine (Ernie) Jones, of Fort Dodge; brother-in-law Kenny Russell of Waverly; Sister-in-law Sandy Mehmen of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; one granddaughter Heather Miller; her parents, brothers: Jake, Frank Marvin, Galen; sisters: Elizabeth Deters, Gertrude Wubbena, and Grace Russell.
