Maribel Jean Murphy, 82, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away February 26, 2010, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. She was born January 21, 1928, in Hampton, Iowa, to Henry & Clara (Einhaus) Fredericks. Maribel graduated from the Hampton High School in 1946, and also from the La James School of Cosmetology in 1947. She married Jack (JR) Murphy on January 12, 1949, in Shakopee, Minnesota. Jack passed away December 28, 1985. Maribel was a beautician, mother and a farm wife. She was a member of the Good Luck Club, Mother's Club, Franklin General Hospital Auxuliary, was in many card clubs, a volunteer at the Franklin County Historical Museum and was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hampton. Maribel enjoyed her family and friends. She also loved her faithful dog, Smokey who passed away this last fall. She enjoyed attending all the grandchildren's extra curricular activities at school and church. Maribel loved going fishing on the pontoon, not necessarily to fish but to be with family. She loved playing cards and belonged to many card groups. Maribel is survived by her daughter, Sandy Scallon of Ackley, son, Terry Murphy of Hampton, daughter, Nancy (Rick) Mast of Hampton, daughter, Julie Helmke of Hampton, son, Robert (Erin) Murphy of Hampton, grandchildren; Michelle (Kevin) Dirks of Grimes, Michael Wessels of Ackley, Matthew Wessels of Wall Lake, Courtney Murphy of Swaledale, Colin Helmke of Hampton and Amanda Mast of Hampton, great grandchildren; Taylor & Brylea Wessels of Wall Lake, Madison Wessels of Ackley, Kolby, McKenna and Kyle Dirks of Grimes, and Hayden Helmke of Hampton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother, Lewis Fredericks, and her sister and brother-in-law, David and Helen Crom.
