Marilyn Joyce Miller, 90, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away peacefully, October 17, 2014, at her home in Hampton, Iowa. She was born August 21, 1924, in rural Latimer, Iowa, to Manly James and Hazel Faye (Azeltine) McCormick. Marilyn graduated from Latimer High School and then attended Iowa State Teacher College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, earning her teaching certificate. This led to her first teaching jobs at country schools in Mott and Richland Townships. She was united in marriage to LeRoy Miller on January 23, 1946, in Hampton, Iowa. Marilyn worked as a home maker and a teacher. She loved working with young children and spent many years in preschool education. Marilyn was a 4-H leader and involved with Franklin County 4-H for many years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and involved in the women's group. She enjoyed traveling, scrabble and playing cards. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Jolene (Bob) Boice of Seattle, Washington, son Richard L. Miller of Hampton, granddaughter Serena Batten (Kyle Mack), great grandson Milo Mack of Seattle, Washington, granddaughter Michelle (Andrew) Hoang of Seattle, Washington, brother Robert (LaVonne) McCormick of Hampton, sister Cora Lee Thielen of Hampton, sister Carol Dee (LaVerne) Thielen of Cedar Falls, sister Ellen Kay (George) Dirks of Hampton, sister Linda Fae (Tracy) Hayward of Robins,IA She was preceded in death by her parents, husband LeRoy and daughter Joyce Diane. Memorials may be given to Lutheran Hour Ministries and the Hampton Senior Center.
