Richard (Rich) Young

February 22, 1947 - February 10, 2015

Richard (Rich) Young, 67, of Hansell, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa. He was born February 22, 1947 in New Hampton, Iowa, to Frank and Leola (Kollmann) Young. Rich graduated from Dumont High School in Dumont, Iowa. He was united in marriage to JoAnn M. Knipfel on October 4, 1974, in Hansell, Iowa. Rich worked as a mechanic with Ford Motor Company at Melvin's Ford in Hampton and later as a machinist at Tom Hovland NAPA in Hampton and Iowa Falls. For the last 9 years he drove a school bus for the Hampton Dumont Community Schools which he thoroughly enjoyed. Rich's true love was watching his kid's sporting events and showing their projects at the fair. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church, served on the Hansell city council as well as a stint as the Hansell Fire Chief. Rich was so proud of his children and loved living in Hansell. He is survived by his wife JoAnn Young of Hansell, daughter Tauhna Young & Teddy Sotiriou of Astoria, New York, son James and wife Marianne Young of Rockport, Massachusetts, daughter Sara (Young) & Rick Salinas, grandchildren Connor, Rachael H., Rachael Y., Brian, Ruben and Isabella, brother Roger (Beverly) of Waverly, sister Avis (Jim) Montgomery of Lake Mills and sister Beverly (Robert) Mannes of Lake Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen Young, niece Anna, father-in-law Raymond Knipfel and brother-in-law Russell Knipfel.
