Ruth Ann Brayton Sheffield Ruth Ann Brayton, 94, of Sheffield, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Sheffield Care Center. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, May 12 at Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield with Rev. G Kim Wills presiding. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Zion St. John Lutheran Church, 422 Sherman Street, Sheffield. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home, Sheffield is assisting the family. Ruth Ann Brayton was born June 5, 1927 in Lu Verne, Iowa a daughter of Frank and Nora (Hesse) Gronbach. She attended country schools and graduated from Lu Verne High School in 1945. On September 1, 1946 Ruth Ann was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, W. Dale Brayton, in Lu Verne. Ruth Ann and Dale were the loving parents of seven children, 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. They include her children: Jeanne Weber, Dale (Kathy) Brayton, Diane (Max) Wenck, Patty Binger, Becky Harper, Jon Brayton, Jim (Kris) Brayton; granchildren: Bobby (Sarah) Weber, Joe (Leigh) Weber, Matt (Cindy) Weber, Kati Weber, Andrew (Laura) Brayton, Valerie (Mike) Baker, Alex (Brianna) Brayton, Nathan (Emily) Wenck, Jacob Wenck, Grace (Chas) Hartman, TyJae (Emily Smith) Kelley, Tara (Brian) Truex, Traci (Logan) Van Dyke, Colten Harper, Jaelynn (Joey Bond) Harper, Zach Garner, Olivia Brayton, Zach Brayton, Megan Brayton and Maura Brayton; great grandchildren: Cole, Abby, Amanda, Corey, Makayla, Hannah, Hayden, Brenden, Ellenora, Wesley, Vivian, Veronica, Victoria, Gloria, Meleah, Matthew, Malachi, Emery, Langston, Zayne, Tessa, Isaac, Norah, Caleb, Eli, Elsie, Millie, and Delilah; great-great grandchild: Waylon. Ruth Ann is also survived by her sister Ellen Berryhill and many nieces and nephews. Ruth Ann worked hand in hand with her husband Dale as owners of Sheffield Frozen Foods when they purchased the business in 1956. Family was most important in Ruth’s live, always being there for them, she also enjoyed gardening and reading. She was known as a Card Shark and played with several different clubs. She kept busy with the church circles, American Legion Auxiliary and the B2 Club. Memorials may be directed to the Sheffield Care Center or Zion St. John Lutheran Church in her memory.
