Virgil "Dutch" Richtsmeier

Virgil "Dutch" Richtsmeier, 81, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away August 12, 2010, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was born November 10, 1928, in Faulkner, Iowa, to Herman and Maize (Bower) Richtsmeier. Dutch graduated from the Hampton High School in 1946. He was united into marriage to Dolores Tjabring on December 31, 1948, in Hampton, Iowa. Dutch and Dolores ran the Hansell Corner Cafe and Gas Station for 14 years, then was a Insurance Agent for 30 years. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard and Hampton United Methodist Church. Dutch was a long time active member of the Hampton Lions Club and served in many capacities in which he received numerous awards including Lion of the Year in 2010. Dutch enjoyed making wooden toys for Camp Courageous, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors especially his garden and flower beds. He is survived by his wife Dolores Richtsmeier of Hampton, son Larry (Charlene) Richtsmeier of Latimer, daughter Linda Richtsmeier of Marshall, Texas, son Garry (Bonnie) Richtsmeier of Johnston, daughter Norma Richtsmeier of Austin, Texas, brother Carl (Doris) Richtsmeier of Iowa Falls, sister Leola (James) Chaney of Hampton, sister Marian Johnson of Hampton, granddaughter Lisa (Brian) Nissen of Reinbeck, granddaughter Amanda (Weldon) Ubben of Iowa Falls, granddaughter Syreine Richtsmeier of Johnston, grandson Sean Reed of Champaign, Illinois, great grandchildren Dillion & Kayla Nissen and Hannah Ubben. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
