    Wayne E. Bumgarner

    April 12, 1916 - March 12, 2010

    Wayne E. Bumgarner, 93 of Hampton passed away on March 12 at the Franklin General nursing facility in Hampton. Wayne was born on April 12th 1916 in Garden Grove, Ia. Wayne was one of 7 children born to Alta O and Bertha Bumgarner. Wayne graduated from Leroy High School in 1934. Wayne traveled around the U.S. ending up in Hampton where he worked for Godfrey Showalter. He met Irene M Miller at the Franklin County Fair. In 1941 Wayne enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and left Iowa for WW 2. Wayne and Irene were married in 1942 in Chillocothe, MO. After marriage they were stationed in Salt Lake City. Wayne was stationed in several other bases around the US before deploying overseas. Upon returning from the war the couple returned to Hampton and started farming with Henry and Iva Miller and formed Miller and Bumgarner Angus. When Henry and Iva retired and moved to Hampton Wayne and Irene continued Farming, raising Angus Cattle and Wayne took over sales of Pioneer Hi-Bred seed from Henry and continued for 21 years until moving to town in 1983. Throughout his career Wayne enjoyed Farming, Selling Seed Corn, and raising cattle. He was active in the American Angus Association holding several positions in the organization including Area 10 Director for over 10 years and President of North Central IA Angus Association. Wayne was a member of Anchor Lodge 191 AF&AM of Hampton as well as Scottish Rite Consistory of Des Moines and the Zagazig Shrine in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the El Kahir scooter patrol and loved riding his motorcycle in many parades. After retiring, Wayne loved to golf and spend winters in Sun City, AZ. He loved children, sports, traveling and reading. Wayne is survived by his wife, Irene, Son Hal and wife Julie of Hampton, Grandchildren Mollie and Paul Tobias of Pinehurst, NC, Ryan and Abby Havey and Liz Suntken of Hampton. Sister Coila VanDelune of Des Moines and sister Lois Blewett of Urbandale. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by four brothers, Carroll, George, Marvin and Darrell. His parents.
